My Heart Will Go On: Teacher’s Notes

1. Print out this page and cut the following into sections. Give these to students and ask them to try to put them into order. It helps if you have a little “lead in” first, maybe chatting about the film if they’ve seen it, or telling them something about it if they haven’t.

e. On 10 April 1912 the “unsinkable” ship Titanic set off from Southampton in England for New York with 2,223 on board.

c. On the night of Sunday 14 April the ship hit an iceberg and sank, only 706 survived. It was the worst peacetime maritime disaster in history and by far the most famous.

a. 85 years later a Hollywood blockbuster was made, setting a Romeo and Juliet style romance on the maiden voyage of the doomed steamship.

b. In the movie, a treasure hunter is looking for a diamond in the ruins of the Titanic when he finds a painting of a beautiful woman wearing the diamond.

d. He finds out that the woman is Rose Dawson, now an old woman. She tells her story, about how she was a 17 year old girl from a rich family and how she fell in love with a poor man named Jack Dawson.

f. She describes, through flashbacks, how she met Jack and fell in love, and how he died in the icy water but, decades later, her love for him lives on. It is this love that Celine Dion sings about in 1997’s hit song

(The order here is correct! The letters are to make checking answers easier)

2. Cut up the verses of the songs (from the next page) and give them to the learners to put in order as they listen. It’s probably best to do this in pairs.

3. Give them the whole worksheet on the following page for them to keep and check their answers.
